Ruth.1:15-19. And she said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone back unto her people, and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law. And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me. When she saw that she was stedfastly minded to go with her, then she left speaking unto her. So they two went until they came to Bethlehem. And it came to pass, when they were come to Bethlehem, that all the city was moved about them, and they said, Is this Naomi? A true soldier is known not just by the uniform that he put on but by his courage and commitment to his calling. There are many people in uniform but lacks discipline, commitment and dedication to duty and country. Today there are many churchgoers but it is not all that goes to church that is a true Christian. Mt.7:20-23. The Lord said not all that say unto me Lord, Lord that will enter into the kingdom of God. Rom.2:28-29. 2Timothy.2:19-22. To make it to heaven we must be converted and committed to the Lord as Ruth was to the mother in-law and to the God of heaven. We must follow Jesus Christ faithfully, steadfastly; remain focused and unmoved by persecution, trials and tests. Ruth demonstrated the attributes of a dedicated and steadfast Christian on the way to heaven. When her daughter went back she remained steadfast in following her mother in-law till she came to Bethlehem the birth place of Jesus Christ. 1. DECISION TO COME BACK TO GOD Ruth.1:6-10. Luke.15:17-20. Hosea.6:1. Hosea.14:1-2. Isaiah.44:21-22. Jer.4:1, 3-4. Jer.15:19-21. Jer.24:6-7. Naomi heard that the Lord had visited his people in giving them bread and she decided to go back home and back to God. They left the Lord of the covenant because of famine without prayer or seeking God’s guidance. The family of Naomi suffered dearly for their wrong decision to leave Bethlehem-Judah to Moab a cursed city. Wrong decision always spells doom, but we need not remain in the far country make up your mind to come back to the Lord God and all will change. Naomi’s decision was (1) voluntary decision. (2) Personal decision. (3) Wholehearted decision. (4) Irreversible decision. (5) Willing decision. (6) Sincere decision. (7) Perpetual decision. 2. DEPARTURE (DESERTION) OF THE UNGODLY FROM GOD Ruth.1:11-14. John.6:59-60, 66-69. 2Timothy.4:10. Mk.4:13-20. Judges.2:10-13, 19. The whole scripture is filled with men and women who went back from the Lord. Orpah went back from Naomi because of the following reason which is the same reasons why people turn back from the Lord today. (1) Short-sightedness. She could not truth in the Lord. (2) Selfishness and self-will. (3) Spiritual blindness. (4) Carnality and carnal consideration. (5) Worldliness and worldly cares. (6) Pressure from friends, family members, peer group and our flesh. (7) Unwillingness to surrender all to the Lord. (8) Lack of truth and confidence in God. (9) Walking by sight not by faith. (10) Lack of self discipline. For the godless to come back to the Lord there are steps they must take. (1) Realization. (2) Repentance. (3) Renunciation. (4) Return. (5) Repair the altar of prayer. (6) Resolve to remain faithful. (7) Resist the temptation to backslide. (8) Reject all offers from the world. (9) Refuse to look back. (10) Remain unmoved by trials or test. 3. DEDICATION OF THE GODLY TO GOD Ruth.1:15-19. 2Kings.2:1-10. John.6:66-69. Luke.9:62. Daniel.1:8. Gen.39:7-12. Ruth is model of a dedicated person to the Lord. She remained resolute after Orpah went back from the Lord. She remain committed and dedicated to the mother in-law and there lots to learn from Ruth. (1) She was saved. (2) She was steadfast. (3) She was unwavering and stable. (4) She was spiritual. (5) She was sincere in her decision. (6) She was submissive. (7) She was single-minded.
