“34 And when He called the people to Him, with His disciples also, He said to them, ‘Whoever desires to come after Me, let Him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.'” Mark 8:34 (NKJV) This is the last discussion set for this scripture, but it is also the most important part of the scripture. Following Christ is not easy, but follow we must! The are many who say they follow Christ, but they are really only giving lip service to the task. They go to church on the Lord’sDay, and they say all the right things in front of their ‘church’ friends. Then on Monday, they are the ones gossipping at the water cooler, or laughing at the off-color jokes someone is telling. That is not following Christ. Their are those who say they are followers of Christ, then use hate and fear to try to convince someone they need to be saved or to change their ways or they are going to hell. They may well be going to hell, but they will not be alone. WhendidChrist use hate and fearfor anything? To follow Christ, you must live as Christ lives, loved as Christ loves, forgive as Christ forgives. Love as we are loved and forgive as we are forgiven is not just some slogan. It is a way of life, it is they way we are to live to follow Christ. To truly follow Christ, we must remember who all credit and praise and glory go to – our Heavenly Father. Christ repeatedly told everyone that He did nothing which His Father had not told Him to do. He used the words His Father gave Him. He lived ,and died, because it was the will of God, His Father. He arose from His earthly death by the power of God, which He told everyone would happen. All praise and glory and thanksgiving are owed the Father because without Him we can do nothing. Yet all things are possible with God. Without Him, we would be nothing but dust blowing in the winds of this world. He supplies our every need. He loves us unconditionally, not because we deserve it, but because He wants to. He loves us so much,He surrendered His own Son to die in our place, so we could have the opportunity to have eternal life with Him in heaven. Following Christ is our entire being in all we say and do everyday of the week, every week of the year, anytime, day or night. We need to constanly ask ourselves,’What would Jesus do?’ .That thought needs to be the first thing every morning and last thing every night. It needs to be our question to ourselves before we say or do anything. FOLLOWING CHRIST MUST BE WITH OUR ENTIRE HEART, MIND, AND SOUL.
