THE UNPROFITABLE SERVANT The scriptures below help to describe who is an UNPROFITABLE servant. An unprofitable servant is a believer who waits to be instructed or commanded to do what they ought to do. LUKE 17:7-10 – “And which of you, having A SERVANT plowing or tending sheep, will say to him when he has come in from the field, ‘Come at once and sit down to eat’? “But will he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare something for my supper, and gird yourself and serve me till I have eaten and drunk, and afterward you will eat and drink’? “Does he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I think not. “So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, SAY, ‘We are UNPROFITABLE servants. We have DONE what was OUR DUTY to do.'”
PROFITABLE servants do what is needed to be done without having to be commanded. Many Christians believe that the best way to live is by waiting for God to command them to do a certain task. However, God has ALREADY made His will clearly known through the Bible. You don’t have to wait for a prophesy or word of knowledge to decide if you will help in the Ushers team, or in the Cleaning and Set up team, or in the Choir, or in the Witnessing and Evangelism team, or in the Children’s Church and many other teams found in a Local Church. The Bible already states that EVERY believer without exception has been personally gifted by the Holy Spirit when they got saved! 1ST PETER 4:10-11- CEV – EACH OF YOU has been blessed with one of God’s many wonderful gifts TO BE USED IN THE SERVICE OF OTHERS. So use your gift well… It is NOT a sign of maturity when you have to be CONTINUALLY told or reminded, to do what you OUGHT to do. It is a sign of IMMATURITY and maybe rebellion. The unprofitable servant who has to be commanded to do his duty is not rewarded. In the book of Matthew, Jesus called a certain unprofitable servant, wicked and lazy and his fate was to be cast into the outer darkness, where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth [Matthew 25:26-30]. A profitable [useful] servant does what is NEEDED to be done without having to be reminded or supervised. The Bible also reveals to us that there is HOPE for someone who has been unprofitable. Through the grace of God they can change and become profitable. Praise the Lord! PHILEMON 1:10-11- I appeal to you for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten while in my chains, WHO ONCE WAS UNPROFITABLE to you, BUT NOW IS PROFITABLE to you and to me. DECREE: In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I decree and declare that by the grace and blessing of God, from this day forward and for the rest of my life; I am profitable, useful and very helpful, to the Lord Jesus Christ and His kingdom and also to my pastor and my local church. Amen! 2ND CORINTHIANS 8:5 – …they first GAVE themselves TO THE LORD, and then TO US by the will of God. 2ND TIMOTHY 4:11 -KJV- Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is PROFITABLE TO ME for the ministry.
