DON’T BE PROUD OF BEING A SIMPLE PERSON

The dictionary defines the word simple as something that is not hard to understand or do. Something that is not complex, special or unusual. However, the dictionary also defines the word simple as SOMEONE who is ignorant, foolish, or gullible. Sadly, there are quite a number of people who ignorantly take pride in being a “simple” person. The Bible too does not have very flattering things to say about a simple person. The Bible actually suggests that the simple should get FED UP with simplicity. Proverbs 1:22 – “HOW LONG, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? Here are a few Bible verses concerning the simple: [1.] They know NOTHING. Proverbs 9:13 – A foolish woman is clamorous; She is SIMPLE, and knows nothing. [2.] They are NAIVE. Proverbs 14:15 – The SIMPLE believes every word, But the prudent considers well his steps. [3.] They inherit FOOLISHNESS. Proverbs 14:18 – The SIMPLE inherit folly, But the prudent are crowned with knowledge. [4.] They lack FORESIGHT. Proverbs 27:12 – A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself; the SIMPLE pass on and are punished. [5.] They are DECEIVED. Romans 16:18 – For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the SIMPLE. [6.] They fall prey to HARLOTS and the immoral. Proverbs 7:6-10 – For at the window of my house I looked through my lattice, And saw AMONG THE SIMPLE, I perceived among the youths, A young man devoid of understanding, passing along the street near her corner; And he took the path to her house in the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night. And there a woman met him, with the attire of a HARLOT, and a crafty heart. [7.] They are WAYWARD. Proverbs 1:32 – For the waywardness of the SIMPLE will kill them… Having said all the above, I would like you to know that there is good news for the simple! There is help for them. The wisdom of God’s Word can and will change their lives if they embrace it. [1.] The Word of God will make them WISE. Psalm 19:7 – The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, MAKING WISE the SIMPLE; [2.] The Word of God will give them UNDERSTANDING. Psalm 119:130 – The entrance of Your words gives light; It GIVES UNDERSTANDING to the SIMPLE.
