Philippians 3:18 – For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the ENEMIES of the cross of Christ.
The dictionary defines an enemy as a person who is actively opposed or hostile to someone or something. It also defines an enemy as a thing that harms or weakens something else. The worst enemy is not the person who would harm you physically, financially or in any material sense but one who would sabotage your relationship with God. God is the most important person and factor in your life. The worst enemy is the person who is opposed or hostile to your devotion to God and His Kingdom and seeks to weaken or end that devotion. The Bible gives us examples of people who were greatly disadvantaged, challenged or even devastated in life because of their SPOUSES or people that they were romantically involved with. Let’s look at three. [1.] Samson: He died prematurely because of the girl he fell in love with! Judges16:4, 19 – Afterward it happened that HE LOVED A WOMAN in the Valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah… Then she lulled him to sleep on her knees, and called for a man and had him shave off the seven locks of his head. Then she began to torment him, and HIS STRENGTH LEFT HIM. [2.] King Jehoram: The Bible informs us that he lived an evil lifestyle because of the woman he married. He married the daughter of the evil King Ahab. 2nd Chronicles 21:5-6 – Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, just as the house of Ahab had done, FOR HE HAD THE DAUGHTER OF AHAB AS A WIFE; and he did evil in the sight of the LORD. [3.] King David: He refused to be discouraged by his wife when she mocked and belittled his passionate worship of God. Many God given ideas have been dampened or extinguished by an insensitive spouse. The next scripture reveals to us that there are spouses who have caught a wave of revival but only to go home and it is dampened or extinguished by a spouse! 2nd Samuel 6:20 – Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, “How glorious was the king of Israel today, uncovering himself today in the eyes of the maids of his servants, as one of the base fellows shamelessly uncovers himself!” Instead of coming out to meet her husband with a flask of hot beverage and some snacks she came out to mock his devotion and passion for God! Decree: Singles, in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I decree that by the grace and the blessing of God, you see the way the LORD sees. You see well, choose well and marry well! Amen! [1st Samuel 16:7] Philippians 3:18-19 – MSG – There are many out there taking other paths, choosing other goals, and trying to get you to go along with them. I’ve warned you of them many times; sadly, I’m having to do it again. All they want is easy street. They hate Christ’s Cross. But easy street is a dead-end street…
