•MOTIVATED BY REWARDS• Some Christians would say they are inspired by just doing things for the good of it; they, in their view, do not look on to any reward, as it is seen contrary to God’s will. Well, I tell you this: as humans we are to be motivated by one thing or another to carry out things passionately. That is how our nature has been conditioned; without motivation, lethargy is found. Now, do not get me wrong, we are to be motivated by rewards of what we do, but by the right motivation. And that long-standing, right motivation in concordance to God’s will, is the proposed/promised eternal one.
Apostle Paul, in GAL. 6:9, wrote: ‘And let us not grow weary in well- doing, for in due season we shall reap, if we do not lose heart’. This shows that we do good; we act as genuine Christians, to reap the eternal reward set in heaven before the foundation of the world (EPH. 1:4). Again, Apostle Paul, after perceiving in the Spirit, his impeding death, wrote in 2TIM. 4:7-8: ‘I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved His appearing’. It shows that Apostle Paul endured afflictions, challenges, suffering, persecutions…because the rewards he would have in heaven were to be great; he looked on to that reward, serving God unconditionally. In essence, this reward is not only for him, but for all who love God’s appearing as he wrote in 2TIM. 4:8. That is, for all who accept that God came to the world through Christ in the appearance of man’s flesh to establish the covenant of salvation, all these people are sure to reap the reward of their acceptance; more so, when they suffer for God or do things for Him. These people, who are the faithful; the genuine Christians, are sure to love the appearance of Jesus as He comes at the close of the age, after eagerly waiting for Him. They will not cower in dread and fear as the unbelievers that are sure to do so as revealed in REV. 6:15-17. For them, that will be the great day of wrath, but for those who chose to believe, it will be the great day of relief. So, for this reason brethren, walk in fullness of Christ, imitating Him and His goodwill, displaying the spiritual gifts and fruits in their wholeness. For you do not do all these in vain, your rewards are great in heaven, so, be motivated by these rewards. Apostle John wrote in encouragement: ‘Look to yourselves, that you may not lose what you have worked for, but may win a full reward’ 2JOHN 1:8
